Hi All,
Speaking of documentation... the new 74 page User Manual for Open
Admin 3.50 is now available at:

joining the 3.50 Administrators Manual released earlier.
There is also a new Feature Request system on the main OA page. A
voting system on those features will follow. This should allow me to
The Administrator manual for OA 3.50 is now available
Submitted by david on December 15, 2008 - 08:58.Since it's -36C outside today, not much else to do but work on documentation...
The Administrator manual for OA 3.50 is now available. It has a
largely rewritten installation section to try to improve the clarity
of discourse (although no guarantees!) and reduce the verbosity.
It is available in both PDF and HTML format.
An interim version of the User Guide is available in PDF format, which
I rebuild as I rewrite one section after another. I'll announce when
this is complete also.
Open Admin for Schools - 3.50 Released
Submitted by david on December 14, 2008 - 07:43.This release adds the new translation tools to allow OA to rebuild
itself in other languages. We currently have French, Serbian, and
Khmer (Cambodian) available. People are apparently working on a
Spanish version, as well. These new tools will allow users to make
their own translations directly in OA, and will also import and export
.po files so that they can share with others. I am hopeful they will
also contribute these back to the main OA site, so others may download

Open Admin for Schools Tranlation Scripts Done
Submitted by david on December 2, 2008 - 00:00.
There is a new translation file on the documentation page for those interested in translating Open Admin. The new translation tools are also now complete (although not heavily tested) and allow online translation of your existing version. These tools allow OA to rebuild itself into alternate language versions (although editing of configuration files would still be required to complete the process).
French translation of Open Admin for Schools Now Showing
Submitted by david on November 26, 2008 - 18:51.The French translation of Open Admin for schools is now showing in a
new demonstration site.
This is for the upcoming 3.50 release (minus language tool set).
It joins the Serb and Khmer (Cambodian) translation sites.
Open Admin 3.50 should be available in early December in all language
versions. If you would like a translation into your language, please
feel free to put your shoulder to the (Language) wheel! (grin). It
took my wife just under 40 hours to do the translation using poedit to

It's now not a question of whether Open Source should exist in EDU but a question of how much and where.
